Winning at Life - “2x4 to the Head”
We’re in this series called Winning at Life, and every week in the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus keeps doing something uncomfortable.
He keeps taking the spotlight off of “those people” and putting it back on us.
And honestly, I don’t always like that, because I would much rather spend my time explaining what is wrong with everybody else. Wouldn’t you?
We all know “those people.” The crazy relative, the rude cashier, the guy driving 42 in the left lane on 59 going to Houston like he’s leading a funeral procession, the parent at HEB whose children are climbing shelves like raccoons in a state park while they act like they don’t even notice.
We all have people in our lives that we are convinced need an attitude adjustment. Deep down, most of us believe life would get dramatically better if everybody else would just straighten up and act right. If I could just fix my spouse, my boss, my kids, my ex, my neighbor, or maybe the entire DMV, then finally I could have some peace.
That’s why today’s message is called “2x4 to the Head.”
Because we all know somebody who needs one. And if we’re honest, most of us have mentally volunteered to help administer it.
